George Anderson asked: "Is there a reliable way to find homes for sale in columbia that are green?"
The answer is: not right now, but soon.
Right now there are few homes in Columbia that were built to any recognized green building program. Shumaker Homes has their Wellesley neighborhood in Lexington and Hallmark Homes is just now starting some homes in Hampton Forest off of Garners Ferry Rd. that are planned to be certified in our program. Others are also getting started, but there's no list of them all yet.
Once a home is certified in our program, we'll keep a list of them, promote them on our website, and each certified house will be marked as such. A potential home buyer will be able to check if that house is certified in our program or not very easily.
Finally, if you're looking to build or remodel soon, please see www.columbiagreenbuilders.com and click on Membership to see who's in the council. You'll find someone who can help you out.
Thanks for the question, George.
The Consolidated MLS has added a field for Green Construction for their listing input information. Although it is fairly new, I believe that eventually it will become common to have this within consumer searches on IDX feeds. I'm in the process of adding it to our MLS search site now.
